25th March 2008
oops...
I know it's been a little while...
...well I guess that's a bit of an under
statement - it's been over 11 months since my last update.
"AUSTRALIA" went well,
"WOLVERINE" is good, I'm
in Sydney until at least the end of May 2008; and planning a smaller
ski-trip in August 08 before the MEGA-TRIP in JAN/FEB of 2009.
nothing else to report really - I'll try to
get an updated C.V. on the site soon (it's only adding the credits for the
two films anyways...)

IAN
AWAY
FOR
6 MONTHS
|
Local Boom
Operator Ian Thomson (seen above on
the summit of Mt Beerwah) has
joined the production sound team of *********.
He'll be sound assisting during the almost 6 month shoot as it works it's way
around the top end of "Australia".
"This
is an amazing
opportunity to work with some serious
"Australian" talent,
on an epic "Australian" movie. Also I'll be able to see
areas of the country that normally aren't easily accessible to tourists, so
that's another bonus."
Unfortunately he won't be able to share any information as he's already
signed his strict confidentiality agreement.
"It's cool,
this is the first production where I've received a copy of the script with
my name printed in the background of every page. Guess I won't be
photocopying it :)
Of course I don't mind the extra measures taken to ensure the secrecy of
production details; when you're working on a movie with ****** ******* and
**** *******, directed by *** *******, then there are going to be people
wanting to know the details. If too many are leaked during the shoot, then
any chance of seeing the film un-biased is ruined"
Ian drives to
Sydney
on the 19th of April for a week of pre-production, returning sometime in October.
He is still contactable via email
-
ian@thompsound.com or phone - 0414 468

Alternately; updates and photos of his journey
(but not of the set) will be
posted at

So, what have I been up to
lately... not much.
'tis v...e...r...y slow in
brisbane right now - at least for me.
There have been the occasional Short film; Documentaries, and video-camera
interviews, but it's nowhere as busy as late last year. Also got word today,
that the Cast/Crew screening of
All My Friends are leaving Brisbane is happening in early april. Should
be good.
I've been spending my
"spare time" clcyling and swimming, and taking care of all the stuff that
you can't do when you're working insanely (the computer's power supply
FINALLY arrived today).
Also - on the
weekends, I've been climbing the (local-ish) Glasshouse Mountains with a few
buddies.

It's not all Rock-climbing; in-fact the "climbs" are more
like "hikes"
VERY TIRING hikes, but hiking non-the-less.

24th December 2006

Happy end of year, thanks for
helping to make it the one of the busiest.
18th December 2006
Ok... NOW I'm done, for the year.
The last month has been fairly
busy on the recording front... One day on a long-term doco, a few corporate videos, a 10-day Short
film for the AFC (Australian Film Commission), and a nice 2-day
International TVC without any dialog has helped to round-out the busiest
year of my professional career.
In other news: I bought a new(ish)
car, as the old one was getting quite un-reliable. It's a 2003 model Subaru
Forester, and it rocks.

My new Subie... Sooooooo much fun to drive.
I know I've promised before; but
I'll get some more info up about my gear, as the current page is WAY out of
date.
(20th dec 06' -
it's done, head over to the link on the left to see the exciting new
additions)
Happy Holidays to everyone.
13th November 2006
Ok... I'm done, for the moment.
"Unfinished Sky"...Finished; I
boomed a 7-day TVC with a new sound recordist, and moved onto booming the last
week of an American soap that had been shooting on the gold coast for the
past 4 months.
I'm well and truly feeling like a
little break, but I'm glad that the work has been coming in.
here's a photo or two.

I've got a thing for Mist right now, it's starting to concern me |
25th September 2006
Today is day #1 - Booming a 5-week
Australian feature. The production is based away from Brisbane, and
consequently I'll be out of email-range for most of the working week. I'm
back on the weekends though, and almost always in cell-phone contact.
Apologies to all my students for the change to their schedules, but the job
is just too good to pass up.
More info as it happens

I'm back from my
little ski-odyssey, and thankfully, I have upcoming work to help pay-off the
credit card...

That's me - hacking some turns down a blue-run at Mt Hutt.

returned from a ski-holiday to Queenstown, NZ)

1st August 2006
It's a madhouse; with all the short
films, TVC's, and corporates I've been doing over the past few months -
I've barely been able to update the site (and my C.V.) -
Another semester of
the Q.S.F.T. is starting (hello to all the new students - hang in there) - and
come Monday, I'm recording another deferred-payment feature.
I should REALLY update the Equipment
link as well - there are a few exciting additions that I'll get into soon...
For now though you'll just have to
sit tight and marvel at this most recent "Photo of the
week/month/whenever-I-get-the-time-to-update-the-site."

I know - it's actually an older shot - from XXXX TVC 2005
1st July 2006
I've been extremely busy, lots of
short films, corporates, not too many TVC's and...

December 2005
It's been a
while... what have I been up to?
More TVC's, more
Short Films, preparing for another no-budget feature, premiere of
Convictions (the good no-budget one), writing and then marking exams for the
QSFT, buying a new Digital SLR, playing volleyball, buying new
tires/suspension/shocks for the car... it's been an absolute madhouse
recently.
I've just updated
the equipment page. It now has a more logical layout and some better photos.
Still need to
update my C.V. I promise it's coming...
